Copy Me.
In reading Jewelry designer Lorelei Eurto's post on copying designs, got me thinking. Copying can be a good and positive thing so long as we are aware and are acknowledging the original designer. Another artists work can be a great jumping off place or a great source of inspiration but it truly should not be called ones own or profit be gained from another's designs. Children learn from copying so it stands to reason that when we are learning something new we "copy" to learn. I have put my designs out there for others to appreciate and learn from. So, I was thinking about it yesterday and wondered if gathering a few designers together and "copying" a design. Not copying exactly but showing how it can be deconstructed, reinterpreted, or completely redesigned. I think 5 people would be a good number to participate. So if any of you designers out there would care to join in and spread the word about "making it your own" and sharing it on your blog, post a comment and let me know. I will provide 5 of the same elements and provide a design for the jumping off point. We could set a date and share what we copied! I will choose 5 names at random by next Thursday!

I wrote a post on my blog back in Mid August about Artistic Influence. You can read it here: http://treasures-found.blogspot.com/2010/07/artistic-influence.html
And I would love to be included in this positive and creative challenge.
Thanks Gaea!
Enjoy the day.

Sure, I would enjoy this challenge too!
I would love to be a part of this challenge! Thanks!

I would love to participate - I am just starring out so often use designs I see in books and mags as inspiration/jumping off points - and worry that I might seem like a copier :-)
If you need more than 5 participants, I would love to be included. I think great designers do inspire and motivate others, they should take pride in that fact. However, what Lorelei showed us was honest to goodness copying, down to the color, type of bead, placement, materials, etc.
This sounds interesting, Gaea! I would like to participate and be considered for a spot on the design team! :)
What a great idea! Looks like you already have more than enough players, but if you decide to expand or if anyone drops out, I'd love to play, too.
What a great idea, I would love if you would put my name in the hat. I agree that it is hard not to be inspired by so many of the great artists out there. I find it difficult to remember where my inspiration has come from or if it truly my own idea.
I missed the boat on this one, but I'd be happy to throw my hat in the ring.
Hi Gaea, Please put me name in the hat for this challenge -- I am so intrigued!

Hi Gaea! If you are doing a random selection throw my name in the hat. I try to educate my customers on the issued of copyright and this is a great idea to show them what can be down with unique ideas and perspectives!

I too believe coping can be a good thing. This is very healthy way to approach this issue. I would love to be considered for this random challenge.

Dear Gaea,I would love to participate in this little experiment. It would be very interesting to see the outcome.I have already read Lorelei,s blog on the subject.I collaborate with a local lampworker so our joint designs are very unique. However we already have a "copycat" on Folksy.A cheap imitation as is!Cheers,Anne
I'm not as well known as most of your commenters(is that a real word???)but I'd love to participate if you're randomly choosing.
