Books and Beads

So, we are now in August, which makes me think of The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd. That was a good one. So many good books out there. I'm just finishing up Philipa Gregorys The Other Boleyn Girl, which was recommended to me by Joelle. As a mother, reading stories where children are regarded and treated as property sends a chill down my spine and puts a knot in my stomach, but I am enjoying it. A lot. I gave her a copy of Intensity, a page a second thriller by Dean Koontz. I read the last chapter with my eyes closed. Maybe not a fair trade in a book swap. So now I'm on the hunt for a good read. Any suggestions? Post a comment with your favorite page turner and I'll pull a winner to receive a bead bundle like the ones currently in my etsy shop! I'll choose a winner on Friday!

'the girl with the dragon tattoo' - i am on the second one of the series and they are addicting! in fact, i am nearing the end and have to get the third one in the house (and i rarely read a series back-to-back without other books thrown in)...

After reading the other bolyn girl, I read a bunch more of her books. They are all really great. Or anything by Jennifer Weiner - her new one is great.

I just finished "Little Bee" by Chris Cleave -- VERY good.

Another excellent historical fiction (based largely on little-known documents) is "Lady Elizabeth" by Alison Weir, a writer of history.

Enjoy!

I agree with MJ that Steig Larson's books are fantabulous! I read
The Devlin Diary and it's pretty good. So is The Welsh Girl. So is the Dandy in the Underworld (if you like reading about trainwrecks!).

I am still in Steig Larson withdrawal after reading all three of them and seeing the movie. Can't recommend them enough. But to be helpful and give you a different title, I have loved reading Goldengrove by Francine Prose. I always love to hear about good books too.

I just finished "Boleyn" yesterday. Great read, but I wasn't that sympathetic towards Anne at the end ;-). Another book along those lines is "The Lady Elizabeth" by Alison Weir. I thought it was fantastic; this is the book that got me hooked on historical fiction.

My daughter introduced me to some books by Holly Black and I loved them all! Starting with the "Tithe" it is a 3 part books series and wonderful reads! I see now she has 2 more books out that look absolutely fabulous one named "The Poison eaters". Going to get it. Another book which I adored is "Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen.

Books are one of my favorite topics! I discovered Jodi Picoult a while ago and have read all of her books, and now I'm working my way through Diane Chamberlain's.

On my pile of next to read: Earthly Treasures? by Phillipa Gregory and the 1st Steig Larson. Just finished: "Just Kids" by Patti Smith. Incredibly poignant and tragic - it is her autobiographical account of NYC in the early seventies and her soulmate relationship with Robert Mapplethorpe. Very intense, the things they did in their pursuit of a creative life, their sacrifices...and an amazing window into a time and a lifestyle that has changes so much.
